To the generation that has forgotten how to love.

Dear Generation X,

With emotions wrapped in emoticons, happiness hidden in herbs, hearts guarded by high walls, and love lost among a lot of other superficial things, where exactly are we heading?

When on the Earth did “emotional unavailability” became so attractive? How hard is it to be there for that other person? How hard is it to put some “real” effort? How hard is it to go a little beyond that layer of “LUST”?

How hard is it really?

Our fidgety souls are “almost” happy with the instant sexual gratification, amendable strings, easy entry and exit plans that our “almost perfect” relationships offer. Settling for our mediocrity is fine. But, playing hide and seek behind the curtains of ambiguity isn’t.

Yes, most of us fear that the other person might not catch us if we fall too hard. And it is genuine concern, of course. But wait, is reciprocation our only issue?

We are busy. Undoubtedly, yes.

We all are workaholics who struggle to split time between a couple of well-paid jobs, equally busy friends and inebriated weekends. And we only have 24 hours a day. Agreed.

But, is that it? Have we actually given up on “LOVE” because we don’t have “TIME”?

The problem is, we do want all the things we are running away from. But, we just want them the easy way.

We desire attention but are not willing to return it. We expect kindness but we don’t want to care in return.

We want low maintenance Cinderellas, amiable prince Charmings, and fairy tales without fights.

What are we going to teach our sons and daughters?

To run, but, with restrictions? To be superheroes, but, with apprehensions? To explore the world, but, with boundaries? To love, but, with limitations?

What’s happening right now, is not wrong. I repeat, it’s not “WRONG”. It’s just “SAD” and the “SADDER” part is that it is getting “WORSE”, it is never going back from here.

Appreciate your time for reading it till here.

Your’s sincerely,

A Gen. Y kid cursed with a Gen. X soul.
